Warren & Hutch was established by Jane Gray and Sarah Nelson who were both brought up in the country and come from traditional beef and sheep farming families.
Their experience with food began with Jane going to the Cordon Bleu cooking school in London and Sarah working for the Trade Publicity Department of the Australian Government in London travelling extensively through the UK promoting Australian Produce.
Both maintained a close association with the land and in 1980 became one of the early breeders of Cashmere goats breeding for meat as well as fibre. This enterprise was sold to New Zealand and our interest turned to Texel meat sheep and we were among the first to introduce this breed to Australia.
In 1997 it seemed that there was a new industry developing for meat rabbits so we started breeding with the view to supplying restaurants. It was this last venture that was the begining of Warren & Hutch. Our success marketing rabbits into restaurants led us to other game and we became well known for this range of quality products.
In 2000 Warren & Hutch purchased a chicken shop in Geelong West. This business was built into a bustling food store selling not only chicken but also game and red meats taking its place as the food centre in Geelong. Local produce as well quality products from Australia and around the world were also stocked.
In 2003 Jane moved to Melbourne so we decided to sell the shop and return to our base as wholesalers of quality foods. We now manufacture and wholesale quality products from Australia and around the world.
Today Jane retains her most important role being the best sounding board for all that Warren & Hutch does as well as helping with Farmers Markets and Charity Markets.
